# Connect Facebook

Heropost publishes to Facebook Pages. Connect the Pages you manage, then post text, photos, videos, links and Stories, with first comments, locations and @mentions.

Last checked: Oct 8, 2026 on the live app. Source: https://heropost.ai/docs/networks/facebook/

## What you need

- **A Facebook Page** where your Facebook profile has full control. Heropost posts as the Page.
- **Personal profiles and Groups can't be connected.** Facebook only lets apps publish to Pages, and Meta no longer lets apps post to Groups.
- **Facebook's sign-in must be able to load.** Switch off ad blockers and tracking protection for app.heropost.io, and allow pop-ups.
- **The owner or Admin role** in your Heropost workspace.

## Connect your Pages

1. Click your **workspace name** at the top of Heropost, then **Accounts**.
2. Press **Add Profile** and choose **Facebook**.
3. Facebook opens in a small window. Log in if Facebook asks; if you're already logged in on facebook.com, it uses that profile. Continue as the profile that manages your Pages.
4. When Facebook asks which Pages Heropost may use, choose every Page you want to post to. Leave all the permissions switched on.
5. Back in Heropost, **Add Social Account** lists your Pages under **Pages**. Tick the ones you want, or press **Select All**.
6. Press **Done**. Heropost shows **Account successfully added**, and each Page appears on your Accounts page.

[Screenshot: The Add Social Account window listing Facebook Pages]

Each Page is one account in Heropost. To post to Instagram too, connect it separately: see [Connect Instagram](/docs/networks/instagram/).

### Use a different Facebook profile

Facebook's window uses whichever profile is signed in to facebook.com in your browser. To connect with another profile, log out of facebook.com first, or use a private window, then add Facebook again.

### A Page is missing from the list

Facebook only shares the Pages that were ticked the last time you allowed Heropost. A Page you created later, or skipped then, won't appear until Facebook asks again. To make it ask:

1. On facebook.com, open Settings and search for "Business integrations".
2. Find Heropost in the list and remove it.
3. Click your **workspace name** at the top of Heropost, then **Accounts**, then **Add Profile**, and choose **Facebook**.
4. When Facebook asks, tick every Page you want in Heropost (and their Instagram accounts), and keep all permissions on.
5. In **Add Social Account**, tick the missing Page and press **Done**.

**Removing Heropost on Facebook ends its access to every Page and Instagram account you connected with that profile.** Signing in again in step 3 restores the Pages in this workspace. Afterwards, [reconnect](/docs/social-accounts/reconnect/) your Instagram accounts, and the Pages in any other workspace.

Still missing? Check on Facebook that your profile has full control of the Page.

## What you can post

| Post | Supported | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Text only | Yes | Post Type **Media/Caption** with no media. |
| Photos | Yes | One or several JPG or PNG photos, up to 8 MB each. |
| Video | Yes | One MP4 or MOV, 3 seconds to 20 minutes, up to 1 GB. It's published as a regular Page video, not a Reel. |
| Photos and video together | No | Use photos, or one video. |
| Link post | Yes | Post Type **Link**. Facebook builds the preview card from the page. A link post can't carry your own photos or video. |
| Story | Yes | Post Type **Story**: one photo (up to 8 MB) or one video (3 to 60 seconds, up to 1 GB). |
| Reels and Live videos | No | |
| Groups and personal profiles | No | |

| Text | Limit |
|---|---|
| Caption | 63,206 characters, up to 30 hashtags |
| First comment | 8,000 characters, up to 30 hashtags |

For best results, follow Facebook's recommendations listed under **Media Requirements** in the upload box: photos between 4:5 and 1.91:1, and video in H.264 or HEVC with AAC audio. Heropost checks size, format and length when you upload; it doesn't check the shape.

When Facebook refuses an image's format, Heropost converts it to JPEG and tries once more. When Facebook refuses a video Story's size, frame rate or shape, Heropost adjusts the video and tries again.

## Options in the Facebook tab

[Screenshot: The Facebook tab in the post editor with Post Type, Location and First Comment]

- **Post Type:** **Media/Caption** (text, photos or a video), **Story** or **Link**.
- **Link:** the address for a **Link** post. Use the full address, starting with https://.
- **Location:** search for a place and pick it from the list (places are Facebook Pages with an address). It's hidden when the first file is a video.
- **@mentions:** in the caption or first comment, type **@** and the start of a Page's name, then pick it from the suggestions. Tick a Facebook account on the post first; Heropost uses it to search.
- **First Comment:** posted by your Page right after the post goes out. Not available on Stories. See [Add a first comment](/docs/posting/first-comment/).
- **Add Thumbnail:** a cover image for a video (JPG or PNG, up to 10 MB). With several files, it's in the file's **⋮** menu. Not available on Stories. If Facebook doesn't accept the cover, the video still publishes.
- **Stories:** a video Story has no caption, so the caption box is grayed out.

## Limits and holds

Facebook limits how often a Page can post. If you publish a lot in a short time, Facebook can slow the Page down, ask for a security check, or block it for a while. Heropost watches for this:

- **When Facebook limits a Page,** Heropost stops publishing to that Page for a while, so Facebook doesn't block or lock it. Posts due in that time fail with "Facebook is temporarily limiting how often this account can post. Heropost paused publishing to it until {date} UTC to protect the account. This post was not published to it — schedule it again later." If Facebook keeps limiting the Page, the pauses get longer. Reconnecting doesn't lift them.
- **For a Page that Facebook has limited or locked in the last 30 days,** Heropost also caps how many posts it publishes there each day, counted in your workspace's time zone. Posts over the cap fail with "Facebook has been limiting this page recently, and pages that keep posting after that are often blocked or locked by Facebook. To protect it, Heropost held this post back after {N} posts today. Reschedule it for tomorrow, or space posts out to lower the risk."

What to do: wait until the time in the message, send the held posts again with **Duplicate Failed**, and spread posts through the day instead of publishing many at once. See [When a network limits an account](/docs/troubleshooting/network-holds/).

## Analytics and the Social Inbox

- **Analytics:** views, reactions, comments and shares for each post. Facebook doesn't report reach for Page posts, so Heropost doesn't show it. Follower growth is tracked every day, and posts you publish directly on Facebook are included. See [Analytics](/docs/analytics/analytics/).
- **Social Inbox:** comments, mentions and messages for your Pages. You can reply, and like comments. See [The Social Inbox](/docs/analytics/social-inbox/).

## Errors and fixes

### When you connect or reconnect

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Authentication cancelled" | Facebook's window was closed or blocked, or you didn't allow access. | Allow pop-ups for app.heropost.io and try again. |
| "Facebook's sign-in could not open because Facebook's script did not load in this browser. If you use an ad blocker or tracking protection, switch it off for Heropost, then reload the page and try again." | An ad blocker, privacy extension or tracking protection blocked Facebook's sign-in. | Switch it off for app.heropost.io and reload. A private window without extensions is a quick test. |
| Facebook's own page says "Login error: There is an error in logging you into this application. Please try again later." or "Error logging in. An error occurred when logging you into this app." | Facebook stopped the sign-in before it reached Heropost. Often an old Heropost permission on your profile, or a restriction on the profile. | Remove Heropost in Facebook's Business integrations and connect again ([steps](#a-page-is-missing-from-the-list)). If it still fails, check facebook.com/accountquality for restrictions, make sure Heropost isn't in Facebook's blocked apps, use your main profile, or ask another admin of the Page to connect it. |
| **Add Social Account** is empty | Facebook shared no Pages: the profile has no Page, doesn't have full control, or the Page wasn't ticked. | Check your Page access on Facebook, then follow [A Page is missing from the list](#a-page-is-missing-from-the-list). |
| "Selected account not found" | You reconnected with a profile that can't access this Page, or the Page wasn't ticked in Facebook's window. | Sign in as a profile with full control of the Page and tick it. If Facebook doesn't ask, follow [A Page is missing from the list](#a-page-is-missing-from-the-list). |
| "This account needs updated permissions. Please disconnect it and reconnect through Heropost, making sure to approve all requested permissions in the Facebook dialog." | A permission Heropost needs is switched off. | Reconnect and leave every permission on in Facebook's window. |
| "Failed to reconnect account. Please try again." | The reconnect didn't finish. | Try again. If it repeats, [contact support](/contact/). |

### In the post editor

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Sorry, you can't add both photos and a video at the same time" | Facebook posts take photos or one video, not both. | Remove the photos or the video. |
| "Please select only one video file at a time" | You added a second video. | Use one video per post. |
| "Wrong file format. Please upload JPG, PNG, MP4 or MOV" | Facebook takes JPG and PNG photos, MP4 and MOV videos. | Convert the file. |
| "Image size limit: 8MB maximum" / "Video size limit: 1024MB maximum" | The file is too big. | Compress or resize it. |
| "Duration of the video must be between 3 seconds and 20 minutes" | The video is too short or too long for a post. | Trim it. |
| "Duration of the video must be between 3 and 60 seconds" | The video is too short or too long for a Story. | Trim it. |
| "You can upload only 1 file" / "Media is required" | A Story needs exactly one photo or video. | Keep one file. |
| "Link is required" / "Invalid URL" | A **Link** post needs a full web address. | Paste the full address, starting with https://. |
| "You can have up to 63206 characters in caption" / "You can have up to 8000 characters in first comment" | The text is too long. | Shorten it. |
| "You can have up to 30 hashtags in caption" | Too many hashtags. | Use 30 or fewer. |
| "Codec is not supported. For more information please check requirements" | Your browser can't read the video. | Export it again as an H.264 MP4. |
| Hovering **Schedule All** shows "Please select accounts for Facebook" | Facebook is on for this post, but no Page is ticked. | Tick a Page, or switch Facebook off for the post. |

### When you schedule

These come from the same rules, checked again when you schedule or publish:

- "Unable to post because Facebook requires caption or at least 1 media."
- "Unable to post because Facebook requires link."
- "Unable to post because Facebook Story requires 1 media."
- "Unable to post because Facebook does not support a combination of different media types."
- "Unable to post because Facebook does not support posting multiple videos."

Open the Facebook tab, fix what the message says, and schedule again.

### When a post fails

Failed posts are listed under **Content → Posting Errors**. Facebook's own messages are shown as Facebook wrote them.

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Facebook is temporarily limiting how often this account can post. …" | Facebook limited the Page, so Heropost paused publishing to it. | Wait until the time shown, then send the post again with **Duplicate Failed**. See [Limits and holds](#limits-and-holds). |
| "Facebook has been limiting this page recently, … Heropost held this post back after {N} posts today. …" | The daily cap for a recently limited Page was reached. | Send the post again with **Duplicate Failed**, scheduled for the next day, and space posts out. |
| "We limit how often you can post, comment or do other things in a given amount of time in order to help protect the community from spam" | Facebook's own limit message. | Same as above: wait, send the post again, space posts out. |
| "You cannot access the app till you log in to www.facebook.com and follow the instructions given." | Facebook put a security check on the profile that connected your Pages. Instagram accounts connected through it stop too. | Log in at facebook.com as that profile and finish every check. If posts still fail, reconnect each Page, then each Instagram account. |
| "Error validating access token: The session has been invalidated because the user changed their password or Facebook has changed the session for security reasons" | The password changed, or Facebook reset your sessions. | [Reconnect](/docs/social-accounts/reconnect/) each Page, then each Instagram account. |
| "Error validating access token: Sessions for the user are not allowed because the user is not a confirmed user." | Facebook considers the profile unconfirmed. | Confirm your email or phone on facebook.com, then reconnect. |
| "(#200) Permissions error" | A permission is missing, or the profile doesn't have full control of the Page. | Reconnect, tick the Page and keep every permission on. Check your Page access on Facebook. |
| "Video was not published due to error. Code {code}: {message}" | Facebook couldn't process the video. | Export it again as an H.264 MP4 with AAC audio, ideally smaller, and send the post again with **Duplicate Failed**. |
| "Facebook took too long to process video. Eventually, Facebook marked it as expired." | Facebook didn't finish processing the video in time. | Try again with a smaller file. |
| "Story could not be published." | Facebook didn't accept the Story. | Try again. Check the file against the Story limits above. |
| "Failed to create a comment to Facebook post" | The post went out, but the first comment didn't. | Add the comment on Facebook. |

Failed posts aren't sent again by themselves. After fixing the cause, open the post from **Content → Posting Errors** and choose **⋮ → Duplicate Failed**: you get a draft with only the accounts that failed, ready to schedule. See [The Posting Errors page](/docs/troubleshooting/posting-errors/).

## Questions

**Can I post to a Facebook Group or my personal profile?**

No. Facebook only lets apps publish to Pages, and Meta no longer lets apps post to Groups. Post to those directly on Facebook.

**Can I post Reels to Facebook?**

No. Videos go to Facebook as regular Page videos. On Instagram, every video is published as a Reel.

**Can I post to several Pages at once?**

Yes. Tick every Page you want in the post. Each one is published as its own post.

**My link post has no preview image. Why?**

Facebook builds the preview from the linked page's social image (its og:image). If the page has none, or its website blocks Facebook from reading it, the post has no image. Fix it on the website.

**Do I need to reconnect after changing my Facebook password?**

Usually, yes. Facebook ends app sessions when the password changes. Reconnect each Page, then each Instagram account.

**Can I go Live or add music?**

No. Heropost doesn't publish Live videos or add music. Do those in Facebook.
