# Edit, reschedule or delete a post

Change a draft at any time. For a scheduled post, press Edit: it goes back to Draft until you press Schedule All again, and published posts are locked, so duplicate them instead.

## How it works

What you can change depends on the post's status:

| Status | Can you change it? | How |
|---|---|---|
| **Draft** | Yes, anything | Open it and change it. It saves as you go. |
| **Scheduled** | Yes, after pressing **Edit** | **Edit** turns it back into a draft. Change it, then press **Schedule All** again. |
| **Pending Approval** | Yes, by withdrawing it | **Edit** withdraws it from review and turns it back into a draft. |
| **In progress** | No | Wait a moment until it's published. |
| **Published** | No | Change it on the network itself, or duplicate it and post the copy. |

To move a scheduled post to another day without unscheduling it, drag it on the calendar: see [Change only the date](#change-only-the-date).

## Change a scheduled post

1. Open the post: click it on the calendar and choose **Edit**, or click it in the post editor's list.
2. Press **Edit** at the bottom right. The post becomes a **Draft** straight away. There's no confirmation, and its date stays filled in.
3. Change what you need: text, media, accounts, networks or the date.
4. Press **Schedule All**.

**Edit unschedules the post.** If you leave without pressing **Schedule All**, it stays a draft: it won't be published, it disappears from the calendar, and if it's a repeating post, it won't repeat. Find it under **Content → Drafts**.
- **Check the date before you schedule again.** If it has passed while you were editing, pick a new one: the editor shows "Scheduled date cannot be before {date}."
- **In the last 10 seconds before its time,** **Edit** does nothing: the post is already on its way.
- **Editors** can press **Edit** too. To schedule it again, they send it with **Submit for Approval**.

## What moves a post back to Draft

| You do this | The post becomes |
|---|---|
| Press **Edit** on a scheduled post in the post editor | **Draft**. Schedule it again. |
| Press **Unschedule** on a post in the [Grid Planner](/docs/calendar/grid-planner/) | **Draft**. |
| Press **Edit** on a post waiting for approval, or **Withdraw** in the [Feed](/docs/calendar/feed/) | **Draft**, withdrawn from review. |
| An owner or Admin rejects it | **Draft**, so it can be changed. |
| An owner or Admin approves a post that has no date | **Draft**, ready to schedule. (With a date, it's scheduled.) |

These keep the post **Scheduled**:

- dragging it to another day on the calendar,
- **Reschedule** in the Grid Planner,
- asking Hero_Agent for a new time, or pressing **Change time** on its card (you approve the new time first),
- changing its **Repost Settings**,
- opening it, or previewing it on the calendar.

## Change only the date

| Where | How |
|---|---|
| Calendar, **Month** view | Drag the post to another day. It keeps its time of day. See [Drag to reschedule](/docs/calendar/reschedule-and-filter/). |
| Grid Planner (Instagram) | Click the post, choose **Reschedule**, pick the day and time, then **Save**. |
| Hero_Agent, on Home | Ask, for example, "Move post #12 to Friday at 9 AM". You approve the new time before it changes. |
| Post editor | **Edit**, change the date under **Schedule**, then **Schedule All**. |

## Change a published post

Published posts are locked in Heropost: the fields are grayed out and the button reads, for example, **Published 3/4**. Heropost can't change a post that's already live on a network.

- **To correct it,** edit or delete it in the network's own app.
- **To post it again,** open the **⋮** menu next to its date and choose **Duplicate**. A new draft opens with the same content. Change it, pick a date and schedule it.
- **To retry only the accounts that failed,** choose **⋮ → Duplicate Failed**. See [The Posting Errors page](/docs/troubleshooting/posting-errors/).

When you open a post where some accounts failed, an **Error** window says "Some of your posts have not been published. Please see the details in the Accounts section". Press **Got it**, then hover over the account with the red dot for the reason.

## Duplicate a post

**Duplicate** is in the **⋮** menu next to the post's date, on the post's card in the editor's list, on the calendar and in **Content → Drafts**.

- The copy is a new **Draft** with no date.
- It has the same networks, accounts, text, link, first comment and media.
- If the original has a title, the copy's title ends in " - Copy 1", " - Copy 2" and so on.
- **Duplicate Failed** (published posts with failed accounts) copies only the networks and accounts that failed.

## Delete a post

1. Open the **⋮** menu next to the post's date, on its card in the editor's list, or on the post in the calendar.
2. Choose **Delete**.
3. Confirm **Delete Post?** ("Looks like you were working on it for a while, are you sure you want to delete it?") with **Delete**. Heropost shows "Your post was deleted successfully".

- **Deleting a scheduled post** cancels it: nothing is published.
- **Deleting a published post** removes it from Heropost only. **It stays live on the networks.** Delete it there as well if you want it gone.
- **In Content → Drafts,** **⋮ → Delete** deletes the draft at once, without asking. There's no undo.
- **Only owners and Admins** can delete posts.
- After you delete the post you were editing, the editor opens your latest draft, or a new one.

## If it doesn't work

| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A scheduled post never went out after you changed it | **Edit** made it a draft, and it wasn't scheduled again. | Open it from **Content → Drafts**, check the date, and press **Schedule All**. |
| The fields are grayed out and there's no **Edit** button | The post is published or being published, or your role is Viewer. | Duplicate it to post again. Viewers can't change posts. |
| **Edit** does nothing | The post is due in a few seconds and is already being sent. | Let it publish, then duplicate it if needed. |
| "This post is pending approval. Editing will withdraw it from review." | The post is waiting for approval. | Press **Edit** to withdraw it, change it, then submit it again. |
| "An unexpected error occurred while processing your request." when you change a post | The post is no longer a draft: it was scheduled, published or submitted, perhaps in another tab or by a teammate. | Reload the page. Press **Edit** first if it's scheduled, or duplicate it if it's published. |
| "Post {id} cannot be published because it is in the process of publishing or has already been published." | It's already going out, or went out. | Reload the page. To post it again, use **Duplicate**. |
| "Only the workspace owner or an admin can perform this action." | Your role is Editor, and only owners and Admins can delete. | Ask an owner or Admin. |
| "Viewers cannot create or modify content in this workspace." | Your role is Viewer. | Ask the owner for the Editor or Admin role. |
| You deleted a published post, but it's still on the network | Deleting in Heropost doesn't touch the network. | Delete it in the network's app. |

## Questions

**Can I edit a post after it's published?**

Not in Heropost. Edit it in the network's own app, or use **Duplicate** to post a corrected copy.

**Does Edit change the post's date?**

No. The date stays filled in. Change it if you want, then press **Schedule All**.

**Can I add an account to many scheduled posts at once?**

No. Each post is changed on its own: press **Edit**, select the account, then **Schedule All**.

**How do I stop a repeating post?**

Open the latest post of the series, choose **⋮ → Repost Settings**, set **No repost** and press **Save**. Do this before deleting anything. See [Repeat a post](/docs/posting/repeat-posts/).

**Is there an undo for Delete?**

No. A deleted post can't be brought back. Its media stays in your Media Library.
