# Repeat a post (Repost Settings)

Open the post's ⋮ menu → Repost Settings to make a draft or scheduled post go out again every few days, months or once a year, until a date you choose. Each time it publishes, Heropost schedules the next one.

## How it works

**Repost Settings** makes a post go out again on a regular schedule: every 1 to 60 days, every 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 months, or once a year. You can add an end date with **Repost until**.

Nothing repeats until the post is actually published. Each time it publishes, Heropost makes a copy, scheduled for the next date: same title, text, media, networks and accounts. That copy then takes over the repeat, and so on, until the end date.

## Set up a repeat

1. Open the post in the editor. It must be a **Draft** or **Scheduled**.
2. Click **⋮** next to the post's date, then **Repost Settings**.
3. Under **Repost frequency**, choose how often, for example **7 days** or **1 month**.
4. Optional: click **Repost until** and pick the last date it may repeat on. Leave it empty to repeat with no end.
5. Press **Save**. Heropost shows "Repost settings saved".
6. If the post isn't scheduled yet, schedule it with **Schedule All**, or publish it now with **Publish All**.

The choices under **Repost frequency**:

| Choice | Repeats |
|---|---|
| **No repost** | Never (the default) |
| **1 day** to **60 days** | Every so many days |
| **1 month**, **2 months**, **3 months**, **4 months**, **6 months** | Every so many months, on the same day of the month |
| **1 year** | Once a year |

## What happens each time

- **The first post goes out** at its scheduled time. For a post you publish straight away, the repeats count from the moment it was published.
- **Once it has gone out,** Heropost creates the next copy, already **Scheduled** for the next date at the same time.
- **The copy takes over the repeat settings,** and creates the next copy when it goes out.
- **It stops** when the next date would fall after **Repost until**.
- **On the calendar,** the coming repeats show as scheduled posts with a blue stripe, so you can see the whole series ahead.

Each copy is a normal post: it shows in the calendar and the editor, it can fail like any post, and each X account it goes to uses an X credit.

**Daylight saving time.** Repeats are counted in exact days and months on the world clock (UTC). Where clocks change for summer or winter time, repeats after the change go out an hour earlier or later on your local clock. Check the next repeat after a clock change, and adjust its time if needed.
## Change or stop a repeat

The settings belong to the newest post of the series. Earlier posts show the dialog grayed out with "To configure repost settings of this post group, go to post". Click **post** to open the newest one.

1. Open the newest post of the series (click **post** in that message, or find the next scheduled one on the calendar).
2. Click **⋮ → Repost Settings**.
3. To stop, choose **No repost**. To change it, pick another frequency or **Repost until** date.
4. Press **Save**.

- **Changing the content** of future repeats: change the newest scheduled post (press **Edit**, change it, then **Schedule All**). Its copies carry the change.
- **If you press Edit on the newest post and don't schedule it again,** it stays a draft and the series stops there, because nothing repeats until a post goes out.

## Make each repeat a little different

Repeating the exact same text can look like spam, and some networks refuse identical posts. Spintax lets Heropost pick different words each time a copy goes out. For example:

```text
{Happy Monday|New week, new goals|Monday again}! Our studio is open from 9 to 5.
```

Each time the post publishes, each account gets one of the three openings, picked at random. See [Caption Library, hashtags and spintax](/docs/posting/captions-and-hashtags/#spintax-different-words-each-time).

## If it doesn't work

| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The window is grayed out with "Post already published. Repost settings can only be configured on Draft or Scheduled Posts" | Repeats can only be set on drafts and scheduled posts. The same message shows on posts being published or waiting for approval. | For a published post: **⋮ → Duplicate**, then set **Repost Settings** on the copy and schedule it. |
| The window is grayed out with "To configure repost settings of this post group, go to post" | This is an earlier post of a series. | Click **post** to open the newest one, and change the settings there. |
| The post never repeated | It hasn't been published yet, or it was still a draft. | Schedule it with **Schedule All**: repeats start once it goes out. |
| The series stopped | The next date fell after **Repost until**, the newest post was turned back into a draft, or a repeat was set to **No repost**. | Open the newest post, set the repeat again, and schedule it. |
| A repeat went out an hour off | Daylight saving time changed. | Change the time on the next scheduled repeat. |
| "Viewers cannot create or modify content in this workspace." | Your role is Viewer. | Ask the owner for the Editor or Admin role. |

## Questions

**Does the post need a date for the repeat to work?**

No. Set the repeat, then schedule the post or publish it now. The repeats count from when it goes out.

**Can I repeat a post on certain weekdays, like every Monday and Thursday?**

Not with one post: each series has one frequency. Make two posts, one for Monday and one for Thursday, each repeating every **7 days**.

**Why is there no 5-month option?**

The month choices are 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 months, plus 1 year. For other gaps, use a number of days (up to 60), or set up the next post by hand.

**Who can set up repeats?**

Owners, Admins and Editors. An Editor's post still needs approval before it's scheduled.

**Can Hero_Agent or an automation repeat posts instead?**

Hero_Agent can plan new posts for you each week, written fresh each time: see [Let Hero_Agent plan your first week](/docs/getting-started/first-week-with-hero-agent/). Automations post new items from a source, such as a blog's RSS feed: see [Automations](/docs/automations/automations/).
