How it works#
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI app use tools from other services. Heropost has an MCP server. You give your AI tool a private Heropost link, and it gets 33 Heropost tools for one workspace: it can read your accounts, posts, media, Social Inbox and results, save posts as drafts and, if you allow it, schedule, publish and reply.
Your AI tool does the thinking and the writing. Heropost saves, schedules and publishes, exactly as it does for posts you make yourself. Your link is the key, so there's no separate sign-in. Each link belongs to one workspace, and you decide what it may do. The tools are the same ones Hero_Agent uses on Home, and both draw on the same plan.
What your AI tool can do#
| Area | What it can do | Tools |
|---|---|---|
| Accounts | List your social accounts and see which need reconnecting | list_social_accounts |
| Drafts | Save posts as drafts, one at a time or up to 25 at once; edit text, title, first comment, link, date and media; delete | create_post, create_posts, update_post, delete_post |
| Scheduling and publishing | Schedule posts (up to 50 at once), publish now, send a post for approval | schedule_post, schedule_posts, publish_post, submit_post_for_approval |
| Calendar | List posts by status or by date (up to 62 days at a time), and check whether a post went out and why it failed | list_posts, get_posts_by_date_range, get_post_status |
| Media and Hero_Photo | Search your Media Library by what's in a picture, add photos and videos from a public link, make images with Hero_Photo, save products and people as subjects | list_media, upload_media, generate_image, list_media_subjects, upsert_media_subject, delete_media_subject |
| Brand | Read and update your brand voice, brand kit and the facts Heropost knows about your business | get_workspace_info, get_brand_kit, update_brand_kit, update_brand_voice, get_workspace_knowledge, update_workspace_knowledge |
| Social Inbox | Read comments, messages and mentions, mark them read or done, and reply | list_inbox_threads, get_inbox_thread, manage_thread, reply_to_thread |
| Analytics | Results compared with the previous period, top posts, formats, best times and follower growth | get_performance_summary, get_top_posts, get_format_insights, get_best_times, get_follower_growth |

What it can't do#
- Run the workspace. Billing, plans, team members, roles, workspace settings, and connecting or removing social accounts stay in the Heropost app.
- Manage AI-tool links. Only a person in the app can make, replace or remove a link.
- Work in another workspace. A link reaches one workspace. Connect the tool again in each workspace you want it in.
- Use Post Groups, automations or MonoL.ink. Name the accounts you want instead of a Post Group.
- Read X messages. X isn't part of the Social Inbox.
- Make Hero_Photo videos or image sets. Your AI tool can make one image at a time, at up to 2 photo credits. Videos and multi-image presets are in the Hero_Photo studio.
- Change the media on a post that isn't a draft, or remove all media from a post. Do that in the post editor.
- Report on every network. Analytics cover Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Threads.
What it costs#
Connecting an AI tool is included in every plan. Like Hero_Agent, your AI tool runs on monthly credits called actions, because every task uses AI that costs money each time, and the two share the same actions:
| Uses 1 action | Free |
|---|---|
| Each post your AI tool creates (in a batch, each post counts) | Reading anything: accounts, posts, calendar, media, inbox, analytics, brand |
| Each inbox reply it sends | Editing, scheduling, publishing and deleting posts, and sending a post for approval |
| Uploading media, brand voice, brand kit, business facts, subjects, marking inbox threads |
- One post is one action, however many accounts it goes to and however many times it's edited, scheduled or published.
- Hero_Photo images made by your AI tool use photo credits instead of actions: 2 for a photo, 1 for a graphic. See Hero_Photo credits.
- Hero_Agent chat messages aren't used. They're only for the chat on Home.
- Actions reset on the 1st of each month (UTC). Unused actions don't carry over. When they run out, nothing is charged and no post is created. Reading, editing, scheduling and publishing keep working.
- Your AI tool's own plan is separate. For example, ChatGPT needs Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise to add Heropost.
You can see what you've used under Your tools (Actions this month), on Home, and in Billing. Plans and prices: heropost.ai/pricing and AI plans and your monthly AI allowance.
Who can connect#
- Workspace owners and Admins. They see Connect your AI tools on Home. Editors and Viewers don't.
- The workspace owner's plan applies. Connections and actions are counted for the owner, across all the owner's workspaces.
How many AI tools you can connect#
| Owner's plan | Lifetime, older plans and the free trial | Growth | Pro | Agency |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AI-tool connections | 3 | 3 | 10 | Unlimited |
| AI actions a month (shared with Hero_Agent) | 30 | 2,000 | 10,000 | Unlimited (fair use) |
| AI tools can read the Social Inbox | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| AI tools can reply in the Social Inbox | No | No | Yes | Yes |
- The Agent Growth, Agent Pro and Agent Agency add-ons in Billing give the same as the Growth, Pro and Agency columns.
- Each tool in each workspace is one connection. ChatGPT in two workspaces uses two.
- A link counts as soon as it's made, even before your AI tool uses it. Remove the ones you don't use under Your tools.
Which AI tools work#
| AI tool | Status |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT (chatgpt.com and the ChatGPT app for Mac) | Tested by Heropost on a real account |
| Claude (claude.ai and the Claude app for Mac) | Tested |
| Claude Code | Tested |
| Cursor | Tested |
| VS Code with GitHub Copilot | Tested |
| Codex CLI | Tested |
| n8n | Tested |
| Perplexity, Raycast, Devin (Windsurf) | Listed in Heropost, not tested by Heropost |
| Any other MCP client | Works if it can add a remote MCP server over HTTP (streamable) |
| Zapier | Can't connect: its MCP feature lets AI tools connect to Zapier, and has nowhere to add an outside server |
| Make | Its MCP Client didn't connect in our tests |
Where the link goes in each one: Set up your AI tool.
Get started#
- On Home, click Connect your AI tools at the top right. On a phone, tap the status line under the greeting, then Connect your AI tools.
- Pick your AI tool. Heropost makes your link straight away and shows where it goes.
- Press Copy and paste the link into your AI tool, with no authentication. The link is the key.
- In your AI tool, ask "Show my Heropost accounts". The card in Heropost turns green when the tool reaches Heropost.
- Ask "Use Heropost to create a draft post for Friday about …". Then open the Activity tab: a saved draft shows as create post · 1 action.
New links can publish. Every new connection starts with Publish and schedule on, so your AI tool can put posts out when you ask it to. If you want everything to wait as a draft, switch it off under Your tools → Permissions. See Links, permissions and activity.
Questions#
Does Heropost have an API?
Yes. The MCP server is Heropost's developer interface. Any MCP client or MCP SDK can use it with your link, and there's no separate REST API. Start with the Tool reference and Limits, rate limits and error messages.
Do I need ChatGPT or Claude to use Heropost's AI?
No. Hero_Agent is built in, on Home. Connecting your own AI tool is an extra way in, on the same plan. See Hero_Agent.
Does connecting an AI tool cost extra?
No. It uses your plan: each post it creates and each inbox reply it sends is one action from the same monthly allowance as Hero_Agent. Reading, editing, scheduling and publishing are free.
Will my AI tool post without asking me?
Only when you ask it to, and only if Publish and schedule is on for that tool. It's on for new connections. Switch it off and everything your AI tool writes waits as a draft for you. Many AI tools also ask before each tool call; keep that on. See Safety.
My AI tool says it wrote the post, but it isn't in Heropost.
It wrote the text in the chat and didn't save it. Start your request with "Use Heropost…", then check Activity for create post · 1 action. Saved posts are under Content → Drafts. More fixes: AI tool connection problems.
Can I use one AI tool for several brands or clients?
Yes. Connect it in each workspace. Each workspace gets its own link, and each link uses one of your plan's connections.
