How it works#

Every Shopify store has a public product list. Heropost reads it, so there's no Shopify app to install and nothing to log in to. Each new product becomes an item with its name, description, photos and link, ready to post, or posted for you.

Both your myshopify.com address and your own domain work.

Set it up#

  1. Open your store in your browser and copy its home page address, for example https://your-store.myshopify.com or https://yourstore.com.
  2. In Heropost, click Automations in the left menu, then Create Automation.
  3. On the Shopify card, press Add Automation.
  4. Paste the address in Shopify Store URL and press Save. Heropost shows "Shopify automation created! Your items are being imported and will appear shortly."
  5. Press Settings on the new automation, select your accounts, choose Read from Source or Publish Immediately, and press Save.

What each item contains#

Part From your store
Title The product's name.
Description The product description as plain text. If it's empty, the product page's search description.
Link The product page: {your store}/products/{product}.
Pictures Up to 50 product photos, starting with the main one.

Each check reads your store's product list 25 products at a time, and reads further only while it keeps finding products published in the last 7 days. New products are imported as they're published. Changes to products Heropost already imported, such as a new price, don't create new items.

Settings that work well#

  • Preferred Post Type: Carousel/Image shows several product photos where the network allows it (up to 10 on Instagram, 4 on X, 9 on LinkedIn). Link shows the product card on networks that take link posts.
  • Backup Post Type: Image, so every network gets at least the main photo.
  • Caption: Custom is filled with "New product:" followed by {{title}}, and {{link}} on the next line. Change it to suit your brand, for example New in: {{title}} {{link}}.
  • Attach Link to Caption: Not Link Posts Only adds the product link to photo and carousel posts.

If it doesn't work#

What you see What it means What to do
"Invalid URL" The address isn't complete. Paste the full address, starting with https://.
"An unexpected error occurred while processing your request." when you save Heropost couldn't read your store's product list at that address. Use the store's home page address, not the admin (admin.shopify.com) or a product page. If your store still has a password page, Heropost may not be able to read it until the store is open.
Only some of my products were imported The first import reads the first 25 products in your store's list, and more only while it finds products published in the last 7 days. After that, each new product is imported as it's published. Post other products from the post editor.
A carousel came out as one photo The product has one photo, or the network takes one picture (Google Business Profile). On Pinterest, carousel photos must all be the same size. Add more photos in Shopify, or use Image.

Questions#

Do I need to install an app in Shopify?

No. Heropost reads your store's public product list. Nothing is installed and your Shopify admin isn't touched.

Can it post price changes or sales?

No. Only new products become items. For a sale, write a post in the post editor.

Can I post products from my Shopify store's own domain?

Yes. Your custom domain and your myshopify.com address both work.
