What the account markers mean

Heropost marks an account when it can't publish, either paused after repeated failed posts or needing to be reconnected. Here's where each marker shows, what causes it and how to clear it.

The markers at a glance#

Marker Where you see it What it means What to do
Amber pause badge (tooltip This account is paused) The account's card on the Accounts page. On a phone: Paused under the account name. Heropost stopped posting to the account after repeated failed posts. Fix the cause, then reconnect.
needs attention with a Reconnect button Hero_Agent's Connected accounts card on Home The account is paused, or its connection ended. Press Reconnect, then reconnect it from the ⋮ menu.
needs reconnecting · Reconnect The account chips Hero_Agent shows while it sets things up with you on Home The connection ended. The account can't be chosen until you reconnect. Press Reconnect.
"is temporarily limiting how often this account can post" On failed posts, under Content → Posting Errors The network is limiting the account, so Heropost held its posts for a while. Wait, then send the held posts again with Duplicate Failed. See When a network limits an account.

The Accounts page marks paused accounts only. To see connection problems, check Posting Errors or ask Hero_Agent on Home.

Paused#

Why it happens. Heropost pauses an account after five failed posts in a row for reasons it can't work around. Today these are X refusals: the account is suspended or locked, X didn't allow the post, or the connection expired. Hover the pause badge to read the reason.

What changes while it's paused.

  • Posts skip the account. Each skipped post is marked as failed with "This account is paused after repeated failed posts. Reconnect it to resume posting."
  • In the post editor and calendar, the account shows "{account} is paused, so this post was not published to it. Reconnect or contact support to resume posting."
  • A paused X account doesn't use X credits.
  • Hero_Agent leaves it out when it plans posts.
  • Other accounts in the post publish normally.

When Heropost pauses an account, you also get a notification: Social account paused — "{account} was paused after repeated failed posts. Reconnect it to resume posting."

How to clear it.

  1. Check the reason. If X suspended or locked the account, sort it out on x.com first.
  2. On the Accounts page, open ⋮ on the account and choose Reconnect.
  3. Sign in to X as the same account. Reconnecting un-pauses it. Refresh the page if the badge is still showing.
  4. Open Content → Posting Errors, open each skipped post and send it again with ⋮ → Duplicate Failed.

There's no switch to pause or resume an account by hand. To stop posting to an account for a while, untick it in your posts, Post Groups and automations, or remove it.

Needs reconnecting#

Why it happens. The network told Heropost the connection no longer works, or the connection's expiry date passed. LinkedIn, Pinterest, Threads and TikTok connections have expiry dates. Heropost renews LinkedIn, Pinterest and Threads connections automatically each night while it can.

What changes.

  • Hero_Agent and connected AI tools don't schedule new posts to the account.
  • Its analytics and Social Inbox stop updating.
  • Heropost still tries to publish posts you scheduled. If one goes out, the marker clears by itself.

How to clear it. Reconnect the account.

Check every account at once. On Home, ask Hero_Agent something like "Show my connected accounts". Its Connected accounts card shows a dot for each account: hover it to see Healthy or Needs attention. Reconnect takes you to the Accounts page.

Temporarily held by Heropost#

Facebook, Instagram and Threads sometimes limit how often an account can post. When that happens, Heropost stops publishing to that one account for a while, so the network doesn't block or lock it. Posts due in that time fail with a message such as "Facebook is temporarily limiting how often this account can post. Heropost paused publishing to it until {date} UTC to protect the account. This post was not published to it — schedule it again later."

This isn't shown on the account itself. The hold ends at the time in the message; reconnecting doesn't change it. See When a network limits an account.

Questions#

Can I pause an account myself?

No. Untick the account in posts, Post Groups and automations, or remove it and add it back later.

I reconnected, but the account still shows the pause badge.

Refresh the page. If the badge is still there, reconnect once more and check that you signed in as the same account.

Does a paused account still count toward my plan?

Yes. Every connected account counts until you remove it.

Why didn't my posts go to a paused account even after I fixed it on X?

The pause stays until you reconnect. After reconnecting, send the skipped posts again: open them from Content → Posting Errors and use ⋮ → Duplicate Failed.
