Why connections end#
Each social network decides how long Heropost may post for you. A connection can end when:
- You changed your password, or the network reset your sessions for security. Facebook and Instagram do this often.
- The network wants you to confirm your identity or finish a security check before anything else can post.
- Your role changed. You're no longer an admin of the Facebook Page, Super admin of the LinkedIn Page, or owner of the YouTube channel.
- Heropost's access was removed in the network's settings, or a permission it needs was turned off.
- The connection reached its expiry date. LinkedIn, Pinterest and Threads connections expire. Heropost renews them each night while it can; if the network refuses, you need to reconnect. TikTok and Reddit can also refuse to renew.
Reconnecting signs you in again and gives Heropost fresh access. The account keeps its watermark, Post Groups and scheduled posts.
How you'll know#
- Posts fail. Failed posts are listed under Content → Posting Errors, with the network's reason. The messages in the table below mean you should reconnect.
- Hero_Agent tells you. On Home, ask Hero_Agent to show your connected accounts. Accounts with a problem say needs attention and have a Reconnect button.
- A pause badge appears on the account's card after repeated failed posts. See What the account markers mean.
| Message on a failed post | Network | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Error validating access token: The session has been invalidated because the user changed their password or Facebook has changed the session for security reasons" | Facebook, Instagram | Reconnect each Page, then each Instagram account. |
| "Error validating access token: Sessions for the user are not allowed because the user is not a confirmed user." | Facebook, Instagram | Confirm your email or phone on facebook.com, then reconnect. |
| "You cannot access the app till you log in to www.facebook.com and follow the instructions given." | Facebook, Instagram | Log in at facebook.com and finish every check Facebook shows. If posts still fail, reconnect. |
| "(#200) Permissions error" | Reconnect, tick the Page and keep every permission on. Check you have full control of the Page. | |
| "LinkedIn error. The token used in the request has expired" | Reconnect, signing in as the Page's Super admin. | |
| "The X connection for {account} has expired. Reconnect the account to resume posting." | X | Reconnect, signing in to the same X account. |
| "This account is paused after repeated failed posts. Reconnect it to resume posting." | X | Fix the cause on x.com if X suspended or locked the account, then reconnect. |
| "The TikTok connection for this account has expired. Reconnect the account to resume posting." | TikTok | Reconnect, signing in to the same TikTok account. |
| "TikTok did not renew the connection for this account" (with TikTok's reason) | TikTok | Try again later. If it keeps failing, reconnect. |
| "The Reddit connection for this account has expired. Reconnect the account to resume posting." | Reconnect. | |
| A message ending "Please reconnect this GMB account with Heropost." | Google Business Profile | Reconnect, and tick the box that lets Heropost manage your Business Profile. |
Reconnect an account#
- Click your workspace name at the top of Heropost, then Accounts.
- Open the ⋮ menu on the account's card and choose Reconnect.
- The network's sign-in opens. Sign in as someone who manages that account, and allow access. For Facebook and Instagram, make sure the Page (and its Instagram account) is ticked when Facebook asks which Pages to share.
- Heropost shows Account successfully reconnected.
Telegram and Bluesky don't open a sign-in window. Reconnect Telegram Account asks for the Bot Token; Reconnect Bluesky Account asks for the Password (use an app password). Press Reconnect.
Several accounts at once. Reconnecting one account also renews the other accounts in this workspace that the same sign-in can access, for example your other Facebook Pages. Heropost then shows The selected account and {n} more are successfully reconnected.
Who can reconnect. Any team member with access to the workspace can, as long as they can sign in to the network with an account that manages it.
After you reconnect#
Failed posts aren't sent again by themselves. Open Content → Posting Errors and click a failed post to open it. Then choose ⋮ → Duplicate Failed next to its date: you get a draft with only the accounts that failed, ready to schedule. Posts scheduled for later go out as planned. See The Posting Errors page.
- A paused account is un-paused. If the pause badge is still there, refresh the page.
- Facebook and Instagram are reconnected separately: after a Facebook password change, reconnect each Page and then each Instagram account.
If it doesn't work#
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Selected account not found" | The account you signed in with can't access this Page, profile or channel, or it wasn't ticked in the network's window. | Sign in with the account that manages it. For Facebook and Instagram, tick the Page when Facebook asks. If Facebook doesn't ask, see A Page is missing. |
| "This account needs updated permissions. Please disconnect it and reconnect through Heropost, making sure to approve all requested permissions in the Facebook dialog." | A Facebook permission Heropost needs was turned off. | Reconnect and leave every permission switched on in Facebook's window. |
| "Failed to reconnect account. Please try again." | The Facebook reconnect didn't complete. | Try again. If it repeats, contact support. |
| "Authentication cancelled" | The sign-in window was closed or blocked. | Allow pop-ups for app.heropost.io and try again. |
| Posts still fail after reconnecting | The problem isn't the connection: for example, X suspended the account or Facebook is limiting how often it can post. | Read the error on Posting Errors and see the network's page. |
Questions#
Will I lose my scheduled posts if I reconnect?
No. Reconnecting keeps the account and everything scheduled for it.
Do I need to remove the account and add it again?
No. Use Reconnect. Removing the account takes it off your scheduled posts and drafts.
How often do I need to reconnect?
It depends on the network. Facebook Page and X connections usually last until something changes, such as a new password. LinkedIn, Pinterest and Threads connections expire, and Heropost renews them automatically each night while the network allows it.
I used Heropost a long time ago. Do my accounts still work?
Usually they need reconnecting after a long break, because networks expire their permissions. Reconnect each account from the ⋮ menu.
