How it works#
A posting group is a named set of social accounts in a workspace, for example "Client A — all profiles" or "Instagram + Facebook". You use it in two places:
- Starting a post: pick the group, and the post is set up with the group's networks and every account in it selected.
- Bulk upload: every row of your CSV goes to the accounts of the group you choose.
In the left menu the page is called Post Groups; on the page itself and in menus it's Posting Groups. They're the same thing.
Create a posting group#
- Click Post Groups in the left menu.
- Press Create Posting Group.
- Type a Name.
- Choose the accounts: click their avatars, or open the arrow for the full list with Select All and, with more than five accounts, Search.
- Press Save. The group appears on the page with its number of accounts.
- A group can mix networks: for example, a Facebook Page, an Instagram account and a LinkedIn Page.
- The list shows the accounts connected to the current workspace. Each workspace has its own groups.
Start a post from a group#
- Open the post editor (Content → Create Post).
- Click the arrow next to New Post, then Posting Group, then the group's name.
- A new draft opens with the group's networks and all its accounts selected. If the group has more than one network, the post has an All tab to write once for all of them.
The accounts are copied into the post. After that, the post and the group are separate: you can switch accounts off in this post without changing the group, and changing the group later doesn't change posts you've already made.
No group yet? + Add Posting Group at the bottom of that menu takes you to the Post Groups page.
Use a group for bulk upload#
In New Post ▾ → Bulk Upload (CSV), choosing a Posting Group is required: each row of the file becomes a draft for the accounts in that group, on the networks that can take it. See Bulk upload posts from a CSV.
To import posts for different clients, make one group per client and upload one file per group.
Edit or delete a group#
- Edit: click the group's ⋮ menu, then Edit. Change the name or the accounts, then Save.
- Delete: ⋮ → Delete, then confirm Delete Posting Group? with Delete. Heropost shows "Posting Group deleted". Posts made from the group aren't affected.
On a phone, the page is Posting Groups: tap + New group to make one, or tap a group to edit it. Deleting is done on a computer.
Ideas for groups#
- One group per client or brand, so a new post for them is one click away.
- One group per network mix, such as "Short-form video" (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram) or "Professional" (LinkedIn Pages).
- One group per region or location, such as all your Google Business Profile locations in one city.
If it doesn't work#
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Save is grayed out | The group has no name. | Type a Name. |
| A group isn't in the New Post menu | Groups belong to a workspace, and you're in another one. | Switch workspace at the top, or create the group here. |
| An account is missing from the group's list | It isn't connected to this workspace. | Connect it here first: see Connect a social account. |
| Schedule All is grayed out with "Please select accounts for {Network}" | A network in the post has no account selected. | Select one, or switch that network off in Posting Settings. |
| Bulk upload: "Row 1: No accounts available in posting group" | The group you chose has no accounts. | Edit the group and add accounts, then upload again. |
Questions#
Can I add a group to a post I've already started?
No. Groups are used when you start a post. In an existing post, select the accounts in the account row instead.
Can one account be in several groups?
Yes. A group is only a saved selection, so the same account can be in as many groups as you like.
Can Hero_Agent or my AI tools use posting groups?
No. Name the accounts you want instead, for example "Post this to our Facebook Page and Instagram".
Do posting groups cost anything or count toward my plan?
No. Groups are free on every plan, and they don't count as accounts.
