Every error message, explained

Every message Heropost can show, grouped by where you see it, with what it means and what to do. Paste the text you see into the docs search to jump straight to it.

Checked Oct 8, 2026 on the live appAll plans

How to use this page#

Find the message you see, word for word, in the tables below, or paste it into the docs search: it jumps straight here. Messages are grouped by where they appear.

Text in {braces} changes each time: a network, an account name, a number or a date. Messages that come from a social network itself are passed through word for word; they're marked "the network's own message".

If your message isn't here, or the fix doesn't work, contact support with the exact text and a screenshot.

Message What it means What to do
"An unexpected error occurred while processing your request." Heropost couldn't finish what you asked, and the detailed reason isn't shown. Reload the page and try again. Check the common causes below. If it keeps happening, contact support with what you were doing, the time and a screenshot.
"Something went wrong on our end. Please try again — if it keeps happening, contact support." A technical problem on Heropost's side. Try again in a moment. If it repeats, contact support.
"We're having trouble reaching Heropost right now. Check your connection and try again." Your browser couldn't reach Heropost. Check your internet connection, VPN or firewall, then reload.
"Looks like you've reached the limit of your plan. Please upgrade your account to access for features." You tried to go past a plan limit: social accounts, workspaces, team members or the analytics history your plan covers. See Billing → Usage. Remove something you don't use, or upgrade. → Upgrade or change your plan
"Your account doesn't have an active plan. Please upgrade to use this feature." The account, or the owner of the workspace you're in, has no active plan. Pick a plan in Billing. In someone else's workspace, ask the owner. → Plans compared
Time to Level up! — "Upgrade to get unlimited access and unlock more features." Your plan doesn't include this. Usually an older lifetime deal: some don't include X, TikTok, Google Business Profile, Threads or Bluesky, or have fewer AI captions or a shorter analytics history. Press Upgrade to see your options. → Lifetime plans explained
Your Plan Has Expired — "Your Heropost subscription is no longer active. Renew your plan or switch to a lifetime deal to get your features back." Your subscription ended, or a renewal payment failed. Press View Plans. If a payment failed, see If a payment fails.

Common causes of "An unexpected error occurred…"#

  • Adding a Telegram channel or group: the bot token is wrong, the bot isn't an administrator of the channel or group, or the chat isn't a channel, group or supergroup. Check all three, then add it again. → Connect Telegram
  • Adding a Bluesky account: check the username and password. If you use two-factor authentication, use an App Password from your Bluesky settings. → Connect Bluesky
  • Replying to an Instagram direct message: the Facebook Page linked to that Instagram account must be connected in the same workspace. → The Social Inbox
  • Changing a post while it publishes or after it has published. Refresh the page; to post it again, use Duplicate. → Edit, reschedule or delete a post
  • Sending Ideas and Bugs reports: the same report twice within a day, or more than 10 reports in an hour.
  • In a connected AI tool: the month's AI actions are used up. See Connected AI tools.

Connecting accounts#

Message What it means What to do
"Authentication cancelled" The network's sign-in window was closed or blocked before you finished, or you declined. Allow pop-ups for app.heropost.io, try again and finish the steps in the network's window. → The account list is empty
"Facebook's sign-in could not open because Facebook's script did not load in this browser. If you use an ad blocker or tracking protection, switch it off for Heropost, then reload the page and try again." An ad blocker, privacy extension or strict tracking protection stopped Facebook's sign-in (Facebook and Instagram). Switch it off for app.heropost.io, reload and try again. A private window without extensions is a quick test.
"Selected account not found" While reconnecting, the network didn't return that account for the profile you signed in with. Sign in with a profile that manages the account (on Facebook: full control of the Page), and tick that Page or account when the network asks. → Reconnect an account
"This account needs updated permissions. Please disconnect it and reconnect through Heropost, making sure to approve all requested permissions in the Facebook dialog." Facebook didn't grant a permission Heropost needs. Reconnect, and leave every permission switched on in Facebook's window.
"Failed to reconnect account. Please try again." Reconnecting didn't finish. Try again. If it repeats, contact support.
"Failed to connect X account. Please try again." Connecting X didn't finish. Try again.
"Invalid token format." X's sign-in came back incomplete. Connect X again.
"Connecting an X account requires X posting credits. Purchase an X credit pack first." A new X connection needs X credits. Reconnecting doesn't. Buy a pack in Billing → Add-ons, then connect X again. → X credits
"This account cannot be added to the workspace, as it already exists." The account is already in this workspace. Nothing to do. To refresh its connection, use ⋮ → Reconnect.
"Login error: There is an error in logging you into this application. Please try again later." or "Error logging in. An error occurred when logging you into this app." The network's own message: Facebook refused the sign-in on its own page. On Facebook, open Settings & privacy → Settings → Business integrations, remove HeroPost, then connect again in Heropost with every permission on. Check facebook.com/accountquality and use your main Facebook profile. → Connect Facebook
"Could not connect LinkedIn inbox" Connecting the LinkedIn inbox didn't finish. Try again from Accounts → ⋮ → Connect inbox. → Connect the LinkedIn inbox

Plan messages ("Looks like you've reached the limit of your plan…", Time to Level up!) can also appear when you connect an account: see Any page.

"Gifs in media groups are not supported" On Telegram, a GIF can't be part of an album. Post the GIF on its own.

"Image size limit: {N}MB maximum" or "Video size limit: {N}MB maximum" The file is bigger than this network allows, for example images over 1 MB on Bluesky, 5 MB on X or 8 MB on Instagram. Compress or resize the file.
"Duration of the video must be between 3 seconds and 15 minutes", and other ranges The video is too short or too long. Facebook 3 s to 20 min; Stories 3 to 60 s; Instagram, LinkedIn and Reddit 3 s to 15 min; X 0.5 to 140 s; Pinterest 4 s to 15 min; YouTube up to 15 min; TikTok 3 s up to your account's maximum; Bluesky up to 60 s. "This image is too big. Make sure your images are at most 10000 x 10000 pixels. Current image is {width} x {height}" Too large for Google Business Profile. Resize it.

Scheduling and publishing#

These appear as a message at the bottom of the screen when you press Schedule All, Publish All or Publish now. Nothing is sent until you fix them.

Message What it means What to do
"Unable to post because Instagram requires media." Instagram posts need at least one photo or video. Add media on the Instagram tab.
"Unable to post because Instagram Story requires 1 media." or "Unable to post because Facebook Story requires 1 media." A Story takes exactly one photo or video. Keep one file, or change Post Type.
"Unable to post because {network} requires link." (Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, Telegram, Bluesky) The post type is Link, but there's no link. Add the link, or change Post Type.
"Unable to post because {network} requires caption or at least 1 media." (Facebook, Threads, Telegram) or "… requires caption or media." (LinkedIn, Bluesky, X, Google My Business) There's nothing to post on that network. Add text or media on its tab.
"Unable to post because {network} requires caption for link post." (Threads, Telegram) A link post needs text too. Add a caption.
"Unable to post because {network} does not support a combination of different media types." (Facebook, Bluesky) Photos and a video in the same post. Keep photos only, or one video.
"Unable to post because {network} does not support posting multiple videos." (Facebook, Bluesky) More than one video. Keep one video.
"Unable to post because Telegram doesn't allow more than 1024 characters in the caption if the post contains media." With photos or a video, Telegram captions stop at 1,024 characters. Shorten the caption, or send the text without media.
"It is impossible to set this time: {date}, because it does not meet the requirement: the time must be more than the current one (UTC + 0) by 10 seconds and the number of seconds must be 0." The time has passed, or is only a few seconds away. Pick a later time.
"Post {id} is pending approval. It must be approved or rejected in Team > Approvals before it can be scheduled or published." The post is waiting for approval. Approve it in Team → My Approvals, or ask someone who can. → Approvals
"Post {id} cannot be published because it has no active selected social networks to publish." Every network is switched off for this post. Switch one on in Posting Settings and tick an account.
"Post {id} cannot be published because one or more of the selected social networks do not have active accounts." A switched-on network has no account ticked. Tick an account, or switch that network off.
"Post {id} cannot be published because it is in the process of publishing or has already been published." The post is already going out, or has gone out. Refresh the page. To post it again, use Duplicate.

Failed posts: every network#

These are reasons on Content → Posting Errors, and on the account when you hover it in the editor. After fixing the cause, open the post and use Duplicate Failed to send it again: Heropost doesn't retry failed posts.

Message What it means What to do
"This account is paused after repeated failed posts. Reconnect it to resume posting." In the editor: "{account} is paused, so this post was not published to it. Reconnect or contact support to resume posting." Heropost paused the account after five failed posts in a row for reasons it can't recover from on its own: X accounts that are suspended, locked, not permitted to post or whose connection expired. Fix the cause on the network, then Reconnect the account. → When a network limits an account
"You don't have a subscription" The workspace owner had no active plan when the post was due. Pick a plan in Billing, then send the post again.
"Your subscription does not include TikTok" (also Google My Business, Threads, Bluesky) The owner's plan, an older lifetime deal, doesn't include that network. Upgrade, or untick that network. → Lifetime plans explained
"Response status code does not indicate success: {code} ({reason})." The network refused without saying why. 401 (Unauthorized) usually means the connection, or a media link, needs a sign-in. 400 (Bad Request) means something in the post was refused. Reconnect the account, make sure media links open without signing in, then send it again. If it repeats, contact support.
"The file is too large" A photo or video taken from a link (a CSV, an automation or an AI tool) is over 20 MB for a photo or 5 GB for a video. Use a smaller file.
"Sequence contains no elements" TikTok or YouTube was switched on for the post without a video. Add a video on that tab, or switch the network off, then send it again. Check the other networks of that post too.
"Failed to create {network} post" or "Failed to create a comment to {network} post" The heading of each entry on Posting Errors: the post, or only its first comment, failed. Read the reason underneath it.

Any other reason is the network's own message, passed through word for word (YouTube and Telegram, for example, always give their own). Read it for the cause; reconnecting fixes most messages about tokens, sessions or permissions.

Failed posts: Facebook#

Message What it means What to do
"Facebook is temporarily limiting how often this account can post. Heropost paused publishing to it until {date and time} UTC to protect the account. This post was not published to it — schedule it again later." Facebook is limiting this Page, so Heropost paused publishing to it until the time shown. Other accounts keep posting. Wait until then, send the post again, and space posts out. Reconnecting doesn't help. → When a network limits an account
"Facebook has been limiting this page recently, and pages that keep posting after that are often blocked or locked by Facebook. To protect it, Heropost held this post back after {N} posts today. Reschedule it for tomorrow, or space posts out to lower the risk." A daily hold for a Page that Facebook limited recently. Reschedule for tomorrow and spread posts through the day.
"(#200) Permissions error" The network's own message: a permission is missing, or the profile doesn't have full control of the Page. Reconnect, tick the Page and leave every permission on. → Reconnect an account
"Error validating access token: The session has been invalidated because the user changed their password or Facebook has changed the session for security reasons" The network's own message: the connection ended after a password change or a security reset. Reconnect each Page, then each Instagram account linked to them.
"Error validating access token: Sessions for the user are not allowed because the user is not a confirmed user." The network's own message: Facebook considers the profile that connected the Pages unconfirmed. Confirm your email or phone on facebook.com, then reconnect the Pages and Instagram accounts.
"You cannot access the app till you log in to www.facebook.com and follow the instructions given." The network's own message: Facebook put a security check on that profile. Instagram accounts connected through it stop too. Log in at facebook.com and complete every step. If posts still fail, reconnect each Page, then each Instagram account.
"We limit how often you can post, comment or do other things in a given amount of time in order to help protect the community from spam" The network's own message: Facebook is limiting the account. Wait, then space posts out.
"Video was not published due to error. Code {code}: {message}" Facebook couldn't process the video. Export the video again (MP4, H.264) and send it again.
"Facebook took too long to process video. Eventually, Facebook marked it as expired." Processing the video took too long. Try again, ideally with a smaller file.
"Story could not be published." Facebook refused the Story. Try again.

Failed posts: Instagram#

Message What it means What to do
"Instagram is temporarily limiting how often this account can post. Heropost paused publishing to it until {date and time} UTC to protect the account. This post was not published to it — schedule it again later." Instagram is limiting this account, so Heropost paused publishing to it until the time shown. Wait until then, send the post again, and space posts out. → When a network limits an account
"We restrict certain activity to protect our community" The network's own message: too many posts reached the account at the same moment. Space posts minutes apart. For automations, set Check for New Posts to Every Hour.
"The media was not published due to error. {status}." Instagram couldn't make a post from the file, for example "Media upload has failed with error code 2207053". Check the file against Media Requirements in the upload box, export it again and try again.
"The Instagram Professional account is inactive, checkpointed, or restricted. Please sign in to the Instagram app and complete any actions the app requires to re-enable the account." Instagram restricted the account. Open the Instagram app and complete what it asks, then send the post again.
"Your post couldn't be published because Instagram is taking too long to process it. Please try again later." Processing took too long. Send it again later.
"The media container-{id} was not published within 24 hours and has expired." Instagram expired the upload. Send the post again.

Messages about tokens, sessions or checkpoints on the Facebook profile also stop Instagram: see Failed posts: Facebook.

Failed posts: Threads#

Message What it means What to do
"Threads is temporarily limiting how often this account can post. Heropost paused publishing to it until {date and time} UTC to protect the account. This post was not published to it — schedule it again later." Threads is limiting this account, so Heropost paused publishing to it until the time shown. Wait, then send it again and space posts out. → When a network limits an account
"Media was not published due to error. {error}" Threads couldn't process the media. Export it again and try again.
"Threads took too long to process video. Eventually, Threads marked it as expired." Processing took too long. Try again, ideally with a smaller file.
"Param text must be at most 500 characters long" The network's own message: over 500 characters. Shorten the Threads version.

Failed posts: X#

On Posting Errors you'll see X's own message; hovering the account in the editor shows the plainer explanation in brackets.

Message What it means What to do
"You have no X posting credits left. Buy an X credit pack to continue posting to X." (editor: "You've used this month's X posting credits. Buy an X credit pack to keep posting to {account} — free monthly credits reset on the 1st.") No X credits left. Other networks still published. Buy a pack, then send the X part again. → X credits
"This X account reached its daily posting limit. The post can be published again tomorrow." (editor: "{account} reached the daily X posting limit. Posting will resume tomorrow.") Each X account can publish 50 posts a day through Heropost (UTC day). Reschedule for tomorrow.
"{account} has been suspended by X. Posting is not possible until X reinstates the account." (editor) X suspended the account. Resolve it with X.
"The X connection for {account} has expired. Reconnect the account to resume posting." (editor) The X connection ended. Reconnect the account. → Reconnect an account
"X did not allow this post for {account}. Please check the account's status and permissions on x.com." (editor) X refused the post. Check the account on x.com.
"{account} is locked by X. Unlock it on x.com, then publish again." (editor) X locked the account. Unlock it on x.com, then send the post again.
"X posting is temporarily unavailable. If the issue persists, please contact support." A problem between Heropost and X. No credit is used. If it lasts, contact support.
"X API rate limited (429). Bucket '{bucket}' blocked until {time} (UTC)." X is limiting requests for now. Send it again after the time shown.
"X error. {X's message}" The network's own reason, for example a duplicate post. Act on X's reason. For a duplicate, change the text.
"The mediaId {id} upload has failed." or "The uploaded media has unexpected status {status}." X couldn't process the media. Export the file again within X's limits and try again.

Failed posts: LinkedIn#

Message What it means What to do
"LinkedIn error. The token used in the request has expired" The LinkedIn connection ended. Reconnect the account, signing in as the page admin. → Reconnect an account
"LinkedIn error. {LinkedIn's message}" The network's own reason. Act on it. Messages about tokens or permissions: reconnect.
"PostId cannot be retrieved" or "ETag cannot be retrieved" LinkedIn didn't confirm the post. Check LinkedIn to see whether it went out. If not, send it again.

Failed posts: Pinterest#

Message What it means What to do
"Pinterest error. {Pinterest's message}", for example "… is too long (constraint: maxLength=800)" The network's own reason. Here, the description is over 800 characters. Act on it; shorten the description.
"The media {id} failed to publish." Pinterest couldn't process the video. Export it again and try again.

Failed posts: Google Business Profile#

Message What it means What to do
"GMB error. {error}. {description}." Google refused the post. When the message ends with "Please reconnect this GMB account with Heropost.", the connection ended. Reconnect when the message asks; otherwise act on Google's reason. → Connect Google Business Profile

Failed posts: Reddit#

Message What it means What to do
"The Reddit connection for this account has expired. Reconnect the account to resume posting." Reddit didn't renew the connection. Reconnect the account. Reddit accounts aren't marked as needing a reconnect, so watch Posting Errors.
"Subreddit {name} doesn't support images" or "Subreddit {name} doesn't support videos" That subreddit doesn't allow this media. Post text or a link, or pick another subreddit.
"Posting media failed", "Submitting media failed" or "Submitting gallery failed" Reddit refused the media. Try again, and check the subreddit's rules.

Failed posts: TikTok#

Message What it means What to do
"The TikTok connection for this account has expired. Reconnect the account to resume posting." TikTok didn't renew the connection. Reconnect the account. → Reconnect an account
"TikTok did not renew the connection for this account ({error}: {description})." or "TikTok did not renew the connection for this account." TikTok refused to renew the connection this time. Send the post again. If it fails again, reconnect.
"The video could not be published. {reason}" TikTok rejected the video. Act on TikTok's reason; export the video again if needed.

Failed posts: Bluesky#

Message What it means What to do
"Invalid app.bsky.feed.post record: grapheme too big (maximum 300, got {N})" The network's own message: over 300 characters as Bluesky counts them. Shorten the Bluesky version.
"Account has been taken down" The network's own message: Bluesky took the account down. Resolve it with Bluesky. Meanwhile, untick the account in new posts and automations.

Bulk upload#

Message What it means What to do
"Please select a valid CSV file" The file isn't a CSV. Save it as a CSV and choose it again. → Bulk upload posts from a CSV
"Failed to start bulk upload" The upload couldn't start. Try again.
"The first row of your CSV needs exactly these column names: Caption, Media, Title, Date, Link, Thumbnail, Type, Comment." (may add "Missing: …" and "Your file has: …") The header row is wrong or incomplete. Make the first row exactly Caption,Media,Title,Date,Link,Thumbnail,Type,Comment. The Sample CSV in the window is a working example.
"Your CSV separates its columns with semicolons; they have to be separated by commas. …" Spreadsheets set to some regions save CSVs with semicolons. Save it again as a comma-separated UTF-8 CSV.
"Row {N} of your CSV has fewer columns than the first row. Every row needs all eight columns: leave a cell empty rather than leaving it out." A row is missing columns. Leave empty cells in place instead of removing them.
"Row {N} of your CSV could not be read. Text that contains a comma, a quotation mark or a line break has to be wrapped in double quotes." Text in that row breaks the CSV format. Wrap that cell in double quotes.
"Your CSV could not be read at row {N}." Heropost couldn't read the file from that row. Check the row, or start from the Sample CSV.
"Row {N}: No network in the posting group ({networks}) can publish this row as a {type} post with {n} video(s) and {n} photo(s). Check the Type column, and that each media link is a direct link ending in the file name (e.g. .mp4 or .jpg)." None of the networks in your posting group can take that row as written. Fix the Type column (for example Video for YouTube or TikTok), use direct media links, or choose another posting group.
"Failed to check bulk upload status" or "Bulk upload polling timeout" Heropost couldn't confirm the result. Check Content → Drafts before uploading again; each upload creates new drafts.
"Bulk upload completed successfully!" Done. Your posts are drafts. Schedule them from Content → Drafts.

Questions#

My message isn't on this page. What do I do?

Paste the exact text into the docs search; messages are matched word for word. If nothing comes up, contact support with the message, what you were doing, the time and a screenshot.

Why does the message read like the network wrote it?

Because it did. When a post fails, Heropost passes the network's own reason on word for word, so you see exactly what Facebook, X or the other network said. The tables above explain the common ones.

Does Heropost try a failed post again?

No. Fix the cause, then open the post from Content → Posting Errors and use Duplicate Failed to send the failed part again. See The Posting Errors page.

I keep seeing "An unexpected error occurred while processing your request." What now?

Check the common causes first. If none fits, reload the page, try again, and if it keeps happening, contact support with what you were doing and when.
