Connect TikTok

Heropost publishes videos straight to your TikTok profile. Connect your TikTok account, then choose who can watch each video, allow comments, Duet and Stitch, and disclose promotional or branded content.

What you need#

  • A TikTok account. Heropost connects the account you sign in with.
  • A plan that includes TikTok. Every plan sold today does. The original Lifetime plan can't connect TikTok: choosing it opens Time to Level up!. Some older plans have a separate, smaller allowance for X, TikTok, Google Business Profile, Threads and Bluesky together; see How many accounts your plan includes.
  • A country where TikTok works. TikTok isn't available in India, so its sign-in can't finish there. The account owner can connect it from a country where TikTok works.
  • Pop-ups allowed for app.heropost.io.
  • The owner or Admin role in your Heropost workspace.

Connect your TikTok account#

  1. Click your workspace name at the top of Heropost, then Accounts.
  2. Press Add Profile and choose TikTok.
  3. TikTok opens in a small window. Log in to the TikTok account you want to post to, and authorize Heropost.
  4. The window closes and the account is added straight away, with no list to choose from. Heropost shows Account successfully added.

When you connect, Heropost reads the account's TikTok settings: who may watch its videos, whether comments, Duet and Stitch are allowed, and the longest video it can post. It reads them again once a week. They decide what the TikTok tab offers.

To add another TikTok account, make sure TikTok's window logs you in to that account: log out on tiktok.com first, or use a private window, then add TikTok again. Each TikTok account counts as one account on your plan.

What you can post#

Post Supported Details
Video Yes One MP4 or MOV, from 3 seconds up to the longest video TikTok allows your account, and up to 4 GB. It's published straight to your profile.
Photo posts and carousels No TikTok posts from Heropost are videos.
Text only No
First comment, cover image, music, effects No
Field Limit
Title (your TikTok caption) 2,200 characters
Video length 3 seconds up to your account's maximum. With several TikTok accounts in a post, the shortest maximum applies.

Video length. TikTok decides each account's maximum, and Heropost reads it from your account. The error message shows your limit in seconds.

Frame rate. TikTok expects 23 to 60 frames per second. If TikTok refuses a video's frame rate, Heropost converts it to 30 or 60 frames per second and tries once more.

Options in the TikTok tab#

  • Title: your TikTok caption, up to 2,200 characters, hashtags included.
  • Who can watch this video: required. Public, Followers, Friends or Private. Only the options your TikTok account allows are listed; with several accounts ticked, only the options all of them allow.
  • Allow Comment, Allow Duet, Allow Stitch: off unless you switch them on. A switch is grayed out when the account's TikTok settings don't allow it. With several accounts ticked, every one of them must allow it.
  • Disclose post content: switch it on when the video promotes something. Then switch on one or both:
    • Your brand: you're promoting yourself or your own business. TikTok labels the video "Promotional content".
    • Branded content: you're promoting someone else, such as a paid partner. TikTok labels the video "Paid partnership". Branded content can't be Private.
  • Agreements: posting means you agree to TikTok's Music Usage Confirmation, and to its Branded Content Policy when Branded content is on. Both links open TikTok's pages.
  • Take media, title from the All tab: switch it on to reuse the All tab's video and text. The other options stay on the TikTok tab.

Picking a new video replaces the current one. Watermarks aren't offered for TikTok, because a watermark is added to photos only.

Posts from Hero_Agent and AI tools. When a post reaches TikTok without these choices, it goes out Public with comments, Duet and Stitch off. To change that, open the post before it publishes and set them on the TikTok tab.

Limits and holds#

  • Processing. After the upload, Heropost waits up to 5 minutes for TikTok to finish. If TikTok is still processing then, the post is marked as published and its link opens your TikTok profile. Videos that aren't Public link to your profile too.
  • Connections last about a year. Heropost renews its access when it posts, and TikTok's sign-in lasts about a year. When TikTok refuses to renew it, posts fail with "The TikTok connection for this account has expired. Reconnect the account to resume posting." and Hero_Agent on Home lists the account as needing attention. Reconnect it.
  • No holds from Heropost. Heropost doesn't pause TikTok accounts. When TikTok refuses a video, the failed post shows TikTok's reason.

Analytics and the Social Inbox#

  • Analytics: Heropost doesn't collect analytics for TikTok.
  • Social Inbox: TikTok isn't part of the Social Inbox.

Errors and fixes#

When you connect or reconnect#

Message What it means What to do
Time to Level up! Your plan doesn't include TikTok (the original Lifetime plan). Press Upgrade to see plans. See Lifetime plans explained.
"Looks like you've reached the limit of your plan. Please upgrade your account to access for features." The workspace owner's plan has no room for another account, or for another account on these networks. Remove an account you don't use, or upgrade. See account limits.
"Authentication cancelled" TikTok's window was closed or blocked, or you didn't authorize Heropost. Allow pop-ups for app.heropost.io and try again.
TikTok's window never finishes TikTok isn't available where you are, for example in India. Ask the account owner to connect it from a country where TikTok works.
"This account cannot be added to the workspace, as it already exists." That TikTok account is already in this workspace. Nothing to do. To renew it, use Reconnect.
"Selected account not found" (when reconnecting) You logged in to a different TikTok account. Log in to TikTok as the account you're reconnecting.

In the post editor#

Message What it means What to do
"Media is required" TikTok posts need a video. Add one.
"You can upload only 1 file" One video per post. Keep one video.
"Wrong file format. Please upload MP4 or MOV" TikTok takes MP4 and MOV videos only. Convert the file. Photos can't be posted to TikTok.
"Video size limit: 4GB maximum" The video is over 4 GB. Compress it.
"Duration of the video must be between 3 and {max} seconds" The video is shorter than 3 seconds, or longer than your account allows. Trim it to the length shown.
"Codec is not supported. For more information please check requirements" Your browser can't read the video. Export it again as an H.264 MP4.
"You can have up to 2200 characters in caption" The Title is too long. Shorten it.
"Please specify Privacy Level" Who can watch this video is empty. Choose who can watch.
"You need to indicate if your content promotes yourself, a third party, or both." Disclose post content is on, but neither Your brand nor Branded content is. Switch on one of them, or switch disclosure off.
"Branded Content can only be configured with visibility as public/friends" / Private is grayed out with "Branded content visibility cannot be set to private." Branded content can't be private. Choose Public or Friends, or switch Branded content off.
Hovering Schedule All shows "Please select accounts for TikTok" TikTok is on for this post, but no TikTok account is ticked. Tick one, or switch TikTok off for the post.

When a post fails#

Failed posts are listed under Content → Posting Errors.

Message What it means What to do
"The TikTok connection for this account has expired. Reconnect the account to resume posting." TikTok refused to renew Heropost's access. Reconnect the account, then send the post again with Duplicate Failed.
"TikTok did not renew the connection for this account ({error}: {description})." TikTok refused to renew the access for another reason. Try again later. If it repeats, reconnect the account.
"The video could not be published. {reason}" TikTok rejected the video and gave its reason. Read the reason. Check the video against the limits above, export it again as an H.264 MP4 if needed, then send the post again with Duplicate Failed.
"Sequence contains no elements" TikTok was on for the post, but the post had no video. This can happen with posts created by Hero_Agent or a connected AI tool. It stops the post on every network. Open the post and choose ⋮ → Duplicate Failed. On the copy, add a video on the TikTok tab (or switch TikTok off), check the other networks, then schedule it.
"Your subscription does not include TikTok" The account was connected earlier, but the workspace owner's plan doesn't include TikTok (the original Lifetime plan). Upgrade, or untick TikTok in your posts.

Failed posts aren't sent again by themselves. After fixing the cause, open the post from Content → Posting Errors and choose ⋮ → Duplicate Failed: you get a draft with only the accounts that failed, ready to schedule. See The Posting Errors page.

Questions#

Can I post photos or carousels to TikTok?

No. Heropost publishes videos to TikTok, one per post.

Why are Allow Comment, Allow Duet or Allow Stitch grayed out?

The TikTok account doesn't allow them in its own settings, or, with several accounts ticked, one of them doesn't. Change the setting in TikTok's app. Heropost reads the account's settings again once a week.

Does my video go to my TikTok drafts or straight to my profile?

Straight to your profile, with the audience you chose in Who can watch this video.

Can I choose the cover image or add music?

No. The TikTok tab has no cover or music options, and Heropost uploads your video file as it is. Add music or edits to the video before uploading it.

Why does the post's link open my profile instead of the video?

Heropost links to the video itself only when it's Public and TikTok finished processing it within 5 minutes. Otherwise the link opens your profile, where the video appears once TikTok is done.

Can I connect TikTok from India?

No. TikTok isn't available in India, so its sign-in can't finish there. The account owner can connect it from a country where TikTok works.
