Why it's a separate step#
LinkedIn gives apps permission to post and permission to read comments separately. Connecting a LinkedIn Page for posting doesn't let Heropost see its comments. Connect inbox asks LinkedIn for that second permission, once for each Page. After that, comments on the Page's posts appear in the Social Inbox, and you can answer them there.
The inbox covers LinkedIn Pages. Connect inbox also appears on personal profiles, but the access it asks LinkedIn for is for Pages you manage.
Before you start#
- The LinkedIn Page is connected in Heropost. See Connect LinkedIn.
- You're an admin of the Page on LinkedIn.
- You can open the workspace's Accounts page.
Connect the inbox#
- Click your workspace name at the top of Heropost, then Accounts.
- On the LinkedIn Page, click ⋮, then Connect inbox.
- The tab goes to LinkedIn. Sign in if LinkedIn asks, and allow access.
- LinkedIn sends you back to Heropost, which shows "Connecting LinkedIn inbox…", then LinkedIn inbox connected: "Comments on your LinkedIn page posts will appear in the Social Inbox after the next sync."
- Press Go to Social Inbox. Comments arrive within the hour.
Repeat for each LinkedIn Page.
On a phone: on the Accounts list, tap the account's ⋮ button, then Connect inbox.
What you get#
- Comments on the Page's 10 most recently updated posts, up to 50 per post, in the Comments tab.
- Replies: your answer is posted as a new comment on the post.
- How often: Heropost checks LinkedIn at most once an hour per Page.
- Not included: LinkedIn mentions and messages, and likes.
Things to know#
- There's no "connected" badge. Connect inbox stays in the menu after you connect. Running it again replaces the connection.
- If LinkedIn comments stop arriving, LinkedIn's access may have ended. Heropost doesn't show a warning: run Connect inbox again.
- Posting and the inbox are separate. Reconnect in the same menu renews posting only. Connect inbox renews the inbox only.
If it doesn't work#
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "LinkedIn inbox app is not configured" | The LinkedIn inbox isn't available right now. | Contact support. |
| Could not connect LinkedIn inbox with LinkedIn's own message | You canceled or refused on LinkedIn's page, or LinkedIn stopped the sign-in. | Press Back to Social Accounts and try Connect inbox again. Allow access on LinkedIn. |
| Could not connect LinkedIn inbox: "Missing authorization code" or "Invalid account reference in callback" | The return from LinkedIn was incomplete, for example after reloading or reopening that page. | Press Back to Social Accounts and start again from Connect inbox. |
| Could not connect LinkedIn inbox: "The server could not complete the connection" or "An unexpected error occurred while processing your request." | Heropost couldn't finish the connection with LinkedIn. | Try again. Make sure you're an admin of the Page on LinkedIn. If it repeats, contact support. |
| Connected, but no LinkedIn comments | No new comments on the 10 most recently updated posts yet, the next check hasn't run, or it was connected on a personal profile. | Wait up to an hour and press refresh in the Social Inbox. Connect the inbox on the Page. |
Questions#
Do I need to do this for every LinkedIn Page?
Yes. Each Page is connected separately, from its own ⋮ menu.
Does it work for my personal LinkedIn profile?
The LinkedIn inbox is for Pages. Personal profiles can still post through Heropost.
Can I answer LinkedIn messages?
No. The Social Inbox shows comments on your Page's posts only.
